During cataract surgery, the clouded lens is replaced by an implant (artificial lens) that stays in place for life. The choice of this lens, decided together at the consultation, depends on your visual needs and your eye.
Monofocal lens
It gives sharp vision at one distance, usually far; glasses are still needed for near. It is the reference lens, with very reliable results and no visual side effects.
Toric lens
A monofocal that also corrects astigmatism: it is aligned on a precise axis for sharp distance vision without glasses in astigmatic patients.
EDOF and multifocal lenses
Extended depth of focus (EDOF) and multifocal lenses aim for independence from glasses (far, intermediate, near). They do not suit every eye and may cause halos; their use is decided case by case.
Frequently asked questions
Which lens is best?
There is no "best" lens in absolute terms: the right choice depends on your eye, your activities and your expectations about glasses. The preoperative work-up lets us decide together.
Are premium lenses reimbursed?
The surgery is covered, but the extra cost of multifocal or EDOF lenses is not: see the fees page.
