Ectropion

Ectropion surgery corrects an eyelid that turns outwards, its margin no longer resting against the eye. It is indicated for functional discomfort — watery eye and ocular irritation. A canthopexy can also be performed for aesthetic purposes: a younger, firmer, almond-shaped eye (fox eye).

The procedure

The procedure is performed as day surgery under local anaesthesia and takes about thirty minutes. In the case shown, a canthopexy was performed, anchoring the outer part of the lower eyelid to the orbital rim with a suture. Recovery involves little pain, with variable swelling and bruising in the first few days.

Scar and recovery

The scar is discreet, hidden in a crow's-foot line and extending under the outer part of the lower eyelid. Stitches are removed between the 5th and 7th day after surgery.
