"How much does a blepharoplasty cost?" is one of the most frequent questions in consultation. The answer depends first on an essential distinction: is the operation functional or aesthetic?
Functional or aesthetic: the distinction that changes everything
When the excess upper-eyelid skin rests on the lashes to the point of restricting the visual field, the blepharoplasty is called functional: it can then be covered by French health insurance, with an additional fee stated on the quote. The consultation examination determines this.
When the concern is purely about appearance (heavy eyelids, tired-looking eyes, under-eye bags), the operation is aesthetic: it is subject to unregulated fees, with no reimbursement from health insurance or top-up insurance.
The fees charged at the practice
As a guide, the out-of-pocket costs charged are €1,200 for a functional upper blepharoplasty, €2,500 for an aesthetic upper blepharoplasty, €2,800 for a lower blepharoplasty and €4,000 for all four eyelids. Post-operative follow-up consultations are included in the initial quote.
The quote and the cooling-off period
A detailed personal quote is systematically provided before any operation. For aesthetic surgery, a 15-day cooling-off period applies between the quote and the operation — it is a legal protection, so use it to ask all your questions.
Beware of comparisons based on price alone
From one surgeon to another, the price reflects different realities: the practitioner's subspecialisation, the surgical setting (clinic, anaesthetist), the type of anaesthesia and the follow-up included. The criteria that really matter are detailed in our article choosing your eyelid surgeon well.
